You own a blog with a good page rank and decent traffic, but now you want to make money blogging. You want to capitalize on all your hard work and effort, but how exactly, do you make money blogging? There are undoubtedly many ways to make money with a blog, but affiliate marketing is probably the most well known method to start bringing in the cash.

So, what is affiliate marketing? Affiliate marketing is a method employed by businesses to drive traffic to their websites. When the owner of a website or blog signs up for an affiliate program, the business then assigns a tracking code, text or banner system to the affiliate to place on their website. When a person goes to the blog or website and clicks the link provided, the affiliate program begins tracking the visitors actions. If the visitor proceeds to buy something from the business, a percentage of the sale goes to you.

1. Clickbank

Clickbank features hundreds of eBooks for you to promote. You simply browse their online catalog for various eBooks by topic. When you find something you like, Clickbank supplies you with a tracking code, just like any other affiliate program. You place a link on your blog and the affiliate program tracks any sales generated by your lead.

2. SwordWares.com

SwordWares.com supplies text links and banners to it’s affiliates. Any sales generated from a click-through will land the affiliate 10% in sales profit.

3. Blogitive

Blogitive is a popular method bloggers are using to make money blogging. The site is actually run as an advertising service offered to businesses. A business usually pays around $20 to use the service, and then as a blog owner, you pick an ad to make $5 by promoting it on your website. Just be careful with this last method, since I’ve heard certain websites are beginning to ban or delete blogs that blatantly promote ads from blogitive.

Now that we know which services to use, just realize that neither of them are get rich quick schemes. You could just place these links randomly on your site and expect the money to come rolling in … but it’s not likely. To make money blogging, it’s all about sales. People trust personal recommendation more than a blatant sales page, and that is why blogs are such a good sales engine to capitalize on.

Keep in mind that it’s very possible to make enough earnings from affiliate marketing to actually live on. But, also keep in mind that over 90% of affiliates and blog-owners will never reach that kind of success. It takes time, patience, and education.

Instead of just placing a standalone link or banner, it’s usually good to accompany the link with some kind of opinion or buzz surrounding the product or service. If you have experience with the product or services being sold on a site, let it be known. Get people excited about the products you’re trying to sell, and you can certainly expect to make money blogging.

“Oh no!” – you say. – “So many sites to sign up for! I **** that!” No worries – I recommend you use the free version of the software called Roboform (http://www.roboform.com/) for all of your Internet sign-ups. Roboform fills out your forms automatically with a push of a button, which reduces your sign-up time to a few seconds per website.

Generally, it’s good not to make your blog sound too promotional, with no more then 2 links to any one web-site per entry, but WordPress and Hubpages are especially strict when it comes to blog content. Make sure you don’t put anything that sounds like a “direct sell” onto those websites – otherwise your entries will get deleted and your account could get suspended.

If you like to write your entries in Word Document and then post them to the blog web-sites, make sure you preview your blogs before posting them. Blogs imported from Word tend to show up with a bunch of gibberish HTML codes, visible on top of the page. You would have to go to the blog edit window, and remove those manually. Once you post your entry on one of the websites I would recommend to copy and paste it from that site for when you start putting your blog on others. That way, you will be rid of the Word HTML codes forever.

Posting your blog manually to all of the above web-sites will take anywhere from an hour to 3 hours, depending on how fast you can work. My team and I have cut our posting time to 30-45 minutes, using a great free blog disseminator (a service which auto-posts blogs to various web-sites for you). I strongly recommend blog disseminators to anyone who values their time.

A quick note about the disseminators: they don’t auto-post blog tags – only the body of the blog – so make sure you put your tags underneath every entry. I advise my team against using simple one or two-word tags, the reason being, that they act as keywords for search engines and if they are too general, your posting will not get nearly as much traffic. For example, try googling the keywords “blogging”, “blog” or “online business”. There are millions of search engine results for each of them. What is the chance that YOUR blog will show up on the first page?

Instead, try using longer tags. Think of something an actual person would search for in Yahoo! or Google. For example, good keywords/tags for this particular blog are:

For example, I provide my team with links to various blog directories and with detailed tips on how to avoid common blogging mistakes. Remember that the more blogs you write, the more people will go to your website. I would recommend writing a blog every other day for the first month after your start/join an opportunity.

When it comes to trying to make money online, it was extremely hard to figure out the best route to pursue.  There are so many different options to choose from and so many different reviews to read online, that it made it tough to figure out what road to take.  How do you figure out which ones actually work?  When I became 46 years old, I was bound and determined to quit my job and make money online.  Most of us dream about working from home and not having to punch a clock, or not having to answer to some boss.  But most of us aren’t willing to do what it takes to pursue our dreams.  I know that money isn’t everything in life; happiness is the most important to me.  I will say though, it helps to have a little extra cash when your kids start going to college.  And I also believe that it is very important to build your net worth!

One way to try and make money online is to have your own website.  Sounds like a great idea, doesn’t it?  Well if you’re like me, I didn’t have a clue on how to build a website or what to do to make it successful.  But like I said earlier, I was determined to make money online.  I didn’t know anything about HTML, search engine optimization, website hosting companies, Google Adsense or Adwords, Meta keywords, just to name a few things that go along with a website.

The first thing that I thought of was to go out and hire a marketing firm to help me, and believe me; there are thousands to choose from.  There not cheap either!  They’re going to tell you things like you can make a thousand dollars in your first month.  They’ll act like making money online is so easy and simple.  To work from home and make money online only takes 10 to 15 hours a week.  They don’t tell you about hiring someone to do your business taxes.  They don’t tell you about incorporating your business and the costs associated with that.  And you might want to go out and hire a lawyer to take care of the legal matters.

Running a website is a way to start to work from home, but it takes persistence.  Don’t expect to start to make money online right away because getting traffic to your site takes a lot of time.  You have to do many different things to get people to visit your site.  You have to write articles, blogs and add your site to a lot of different directories, just to name a few.  I’m not trying to discourage anyone from starting their own website; I’m just trying to inform you on what it takes to run a website.  If this is your dream, then by all means, go for it!  

I still feel that paid surveys is an easy way to start to work from home and make money online.  It is something you can do when you feel like it.  You can do 1 survey a week or 10 surveys a week; it’s all up to you.   Whatever you decide to do, I wish you all the luck in the world to succeed.  Follow your heart; it will always lead you down the right path!
