June 24, 2010 - 12:45 am No Comments

The task of blogging which is now one of the ruling weapons on internet has become popular from 1990. Almost all the web surfers have now become web bloggers blogging on several websites. With this increase in demand for blogging and hosting, there started the demand for blogging and hosting services to cater to various needs of the users. We would familiarize in this article about the features of Blogger and WordPress along with comparing them edge to edge.Blogger and WordPress both have their footprints since the initial boom for online blogging has become popular. They now have a tremendous growth in the blogging market. The one main feature both Blogger and WordPress provide in common with the blogging services is the management of free accounts with them.Wordpress is ahead in providing VIP hosting apart from the simple free accounts that it offers along with Blogger. This facility would be attractive for many bloggers who themselves might need it for various purposes. For example for those users who expect heavy traffic load on their sites with nearly 500000 page views just in a single month this special facility called VIP hosting will help a lot. These VIP accounts would start at $500 along with initial set up fee of nearly $600.With the help of premium features that WordPress has for its users, one would find it easy to add a particular domain to the account. Along with this, there are other facilities like extra storage space for the user to provide more information regarding his products.CSS customization available with WordPress makes the users site look attractive. Greater video capabilities will provide clarity of information for the customers when they see to the videos provided on the site. The main ability of the WordPress is to allow 35 users to be assigned on to one single blog. Now that we have a better understanding of WordPress let us now shift to understand Blogger facilities too. Blogger allows free blogging with an interface which is easy to use. A free blogger name is provided which includes your name in framing the domain name like yourname.blogger.com.Blogger has splendid features like customizable templates, video uploading facility and very impressive simple single click photos. As services are managed by Google, by which accounts creation can be done quickly and easily if a user has an existing account with Gmail. Owners can make money out of their creation, for the implementation of various ads through Google Adsense.Dozens of themes being offered by WordPress along with its integrated statistics and various sidebar widgets would attract the customers towards owning a domain with them. One facility that is missed by blogger which WordPress has in it, is the ability to facilitate for more than single page. WordPress can facilitate the creation of pages like, about page, home page, and contact page, so on.Finally altogether from this discussion, WordPress seems to be superior to blogger though blogger has its own demand for simplicity.

how do I get help with blogger? How do I copy and paste from my word processing program (or from where I posted the info elsewhere.)

June 20, 2010 - 2:19 pm No Comments

I have seen a few users mention that they are having issues pasting into the post editing window. I don’t know if Blogger changed the system to keep people from accidentally pasting from Word (and other word processing programs) or if it is just a glitch, but the fact is, you should NOT paste from Word to Blogger. There is a lot of hidden formatting and coding that conflicts with Blogger and I have seen it cause blogs to completely lock up or stop showing any posts at all.

If you need to compose your posts offline first, use a simple text editor like Notepad and paste only the text in using the Control C and Control V keys on your keyboard. Do any formatting you want to do using the Blogger interface tools. Please post your error code here.

Do You Know How We Can Make Money From Blogging?

June 10, 2010 - 12:13 pm No Comments

One of the questions I see frequently asked on online discussion forums is, “Can You Really Make Money from Blogging?” People want to know if there’s some way to profit from the time they spend maintaining their web logs or personal online journals. My answer is an emphatic “YES,” because I do it… everyday!Today I’ll share with you how I do it.Let me begin by saying that I don’t make thousands per month from MOST of my blogs. However, I do have many making hundreds. Since I don’t put in a lot of time maintaining them, and I enjoy blogging, I consider the money a bonus. I blog while sitting in my yard with my laptop (on a wireless connection)… watching the clouds roll by. Another bonus I get from blogging is that it helps my regular websites that are set up as my “money machines.”The search engines visit my blogs more often than they visit my regular sites, and they follow the links from my blogs pointing to other sites. Some of these links point to my sites, and some point to sites of partners. This does help the search engine rankings of these sites MASSIVELY.How Do I Monetize My Blogs?I monetize my blogs by creating blogs on topics people are searching for… and that they are spending money on. I know which niches are hot to an extent based upon what my research proves pay-per-click advertisers are willing to spend their advertising dollars on. I run Google AdSense ads on my blogs. You can visit www.bloggers-guide-to-profit.com  I simply insert these ads in my menu bar and other strategic places on the webpage. I also experiment with other paid advertising on my blogs.I sell affiliate products from my blogs. I simply find affiliate products at places like PayDotCom.com and Commission Junction. I incorporate these into my blogs. I do things like product reviews, how-to articles, etc. You can also locate suitable affiliate products by typing your target keywords + “affiliate program” at any major search engine. This should point out numerous websites with suitable affiliate programs to you.How Do I Setup/Host My Blogs?I have blog hosted on some of my own domains using Moveable Type. This is just one of many great pieces of blogging software. You have other choices… my programmer recommended this one to me.I also have blogs hosted for free on Blogger.com. I have them on Blogger.com because they are incredibly easy to set up and maintain. A secondary reason I have them on Blogger.com is that Google OWNS Blogger.com and they index webpages hosted on their servers OFTEN and FAST!The secret to getting Google and Yahoo! to visit your blogs often is a technique called “blogging and pinging.” It’s a method of notifying all of the major search engines, and blog directories, each time that you update your blog. The search engines come to take a look and they follow links from your blog to spider other blogs/sites. It’s very powerful. I won’t go into too many details on blogging and pinging here. If you want more information on that topic I invite you to drop by my free, Internet marketing discussion board and ask any and all questions! It’s at: http://WillieCrawford.com/cgi-bin/index.cgiExamples of Profitable Blogs?I know, you want to see examples of profitable blogs :-) To show you how simple it can be I’ll show you just ONE. It s less than 2 months old :-) The problem is that as soon as I show a site to anyone as an example, it’s instantly ripped off. So, I’m going to “sacrifice” one making me about $60 per day from affiliate product sales and about $20 per day in AdSense revenue. That site is at: http://cure-nail-fungus.blogspot.comThe above site currently ranks Number 6 on Yahoo for the term “cure nail fungus.” It’s a small niche but one that makes me $2400 per month… just from that one blog.If you searched on the same term at Google, this site is not very highly ranked. However, THIS page is Num ber4:http://www.chitterlings.com/no-more-nail-fungus.htmlThat happens to be one of my pages too :-) I won’t tell you what ALL I’m up to on that page… that’s another article. The technique involves using your own domains to promote affiliate products rather than advertising someone else’s domain… so it improves your link popularity.I’m not going to show more of my blogs because that just invites competition. Instead, I’m going to answer another question you have to be wondering…”How do I find time to maintain all of these blogs, even if they are profitable?” Well, first of all, I don’t really need a lot like the “sacrificial lamb” that I showed you above to keep me satisfied.I do have a number of secret weapons though. One is called Auto logger. You can check it out at:http://WillieCrawford.com/auto-blogger.htmlWhat Auto logger does is allow me to queue up a number of posts for my various blogs in advance. It lets you queue up “articles” which can really be anything you want. Then you tell the software at what frequency to make a post.My Auto logger account allows me to automatically post to an UNLIMITED number of blogs.WARNING: A program like Auto logger can get you in trouble if you misuse it! If you use it to spam or abuse the search engines, it’s just going to get you banned. If you use it to abuse the blog hosts, they’re just going to delete your blogs. Here’s how I use Auto logger:I have sites where I discuss Internet marketing… as just one example. On these sites I share many of my articles and tidbits. I simply queue up these articles/tidbits to post at a given frequency. This frequency can be a set number of hours, days, weeks, or months. So theoretically, I can set up a blog, pre-schedule 50 posts, and not touch it in months, while it is automatically posted to for the next 50 intervals.Auto logger even lets you set it to start rotating through the posts again when they run out, if you want to. I personally wouldn’t do this since you’d just be posting duplicate content.Auto logger allows you to insert RSS feeds right into your blog posts. So in addition to posting articles you can also auto-update by adding new RSS feeds at a set interval. Since I HATE sending my traffic to other sites (without reciprocation), these RSS feeds generally pull from MY sites. That way, my traffic is only sent to my other sites. If you don’t even feel like queuing up a lot of posts, you can go to a site like Elance.com and hire someone else to do it for you… or just hired your kids to do it for you. It can be as easy as you want to make it.OK, I’ve just proven to you that you can make money off of blogs. In-fact, you can make more money than many people make off of their REGULAR websites. It just takes a little thinking outside the box!It also takes not being too greedy. You can log on www.blog-link-generator.com What I just showed you works for me because I’m not doing anything that’s likely to get me banned from the search engines, Google AdSense, Blogger.com, or any affiliate program. It’s only when you get carried away, and do things that harm the search engines that you “shoot yourself in the foot.”Set up blogs providing useful content. Make regular posts to these blogs but not in a manner that seems unnatural. By that, I mean don’t auto-post twenty times in an hour, or post every hour for a month! No human can possible post to a blog at these rates for long, so the search engines detect something is “wrong.” They don’t generally prohibit you from using tools to make your job easier… just don’t get carried away! There are actually, thousands of people earning a living doing things similar to what I just shared… but with little twists. I’m meeting up with many of them in New Orleans in September. You’re invited to join us. We’ll basically be sharing how we make a fortune off of niche websites and programs such as Google AdSense.

Guide To Blogging – Can You Earn Money From A Blog?

May 19, 2010 - 11:17 pm No Comments

Free Blogging PlatformsThe first kinds of blogging platforms are the free variants of popular applications. Blogger.com is the one that is owned by Google and it’s very straightforward to use and completely free. The only drawback is that you don’t really own your blog as it is hosted by Blogger. While the software is great, you’re pretty much out of luck if they decide to pull the plug on you.

The other major, free blogging application is WordPress.com (not to be confused with WordPress.org, which is self-hosted). This is also very easy to use, and it is hosted by WordPress. Be very careful if you are going to do a lot of affiliate marketing on your blog. WordPress.com has been known to shut sites down without warning!

Hosted Blogging PlatformsAs you can see, it is generally a good idea to self-host your blog so you have total control over it. As you begin getting good traffic you’ll definitely want to ensure that there is nothing that can be done to take your blog away. Setting up a free hosted blog is like putting all your eggs in one basket, and that’s never a good idea. Of course that doesn’t mean you cannot set one up that is secondary and meant to help you get backlinks.

Hosted blogs are much better for most people. One of the oldies but goodies is the Moveable Type software. You do have to pay for this, but many people think it’s worth it. It’s a very powerful way to blog.

The Bloggers Blog? Most bloggers, however, seem to favour WordPress.org blogs. You host these on your own server, so you have total control! It’s similar to Moveable Type in that it’s very easy to use, but the variety in the support and plugins available is incredible.

There is a massive community set up based around WordPress. You can find plugins to help you with SEO, to run a membership site, to backup your blog for you, to sell eBay items, and a lot more! There are also a large number of themes you can choose from to make the blog completely your own.

The Decision Is YoursSo, which one should you select? Again, most Internet marketers tend to choose WordPress. You might want to as well since it is phenomenal software and offers everything you need. Better yet, it’s so easy to use that you can have a blog up and running very quickly and easily.

It is also important to note that most tutorials written in the Internet Marketing arena are focused on WordPress. It seems to be the gold standard for bloggers, and you might want to select it if only to avoid the hassle of trying to learn another system that not many people use.

Information On Blogging – Can You Earn Money From A Blog?

May 13, 2010 - 1:44 pm No Comments

Blogging is very popular these days for a lot of different reasons. It’s fun to be able to write about something, or share information with people from all over the world. A blog on a topic that has a large number of interested readers has the potential to generate some extra income for you (If you know how to monetize these visitors). A very popular method for generating some money from your blog is to use Google Adsense.

Use Adsense Ads On Your Blog

One of the most popular methods for making some extra income from your blog is to put “adsense” on it. Adsense is Google’s contextual advertising system, which allows you to position ads on your blog which are relevant to the content of your blog. When a visitor to your blog clicks on one of these adsense ads you get a portion of the income generated.

The amount you receive will depend on the keywords that you use on your blog, which Google uses to ensure that the adsense ad matches the blog’s content.

You first need to sign up for an adsense account ,which is free. Enter “set up an adsense account” into your favourite search engine, and follow the simple instructions for creating an account. It is a good idea to have your blog already up and running, with some good content in place, before signing up to Google’s adsense program.

Blend Them In

Once you have signed up, you will recieve your adsense account. This account will allow you to login, and you can then generate an adsense ad. When you generate the adsense ad, you choose the ad format (i.e. whether the ad will be a ‘header’ at the top of your blog, or a ‘footer’ at the bottom, or a ‘side-bar’ at the edge of your blog). Next you have to choose how your ad will look. Your adsense account gives you a lot of options for choosing the colour of the text, the background colour etc.Once you have decided on the format of your ad, you then save this, and Google will give you an adsense block of html code that you then add to your blog.It is highly recommended to try and match the text and colours you select in the adsense ad, to blend in with the ‘look and feel’ of your blog. The reason for this is you don’t want your adsense ads on your blog to look like ads – if you spend some time choosing the colour and format of your adsense blocks you should be able to blend them into your blog, making them look less like ads, and increasing the likelihood of your readers clicking on them.

Adsense And Blogger

The method that you use for adding the adsense ads to your blog will depend on the type of blog you have:

If you are using Blogger for your blog, then adding the adsense blocks to your blog is super simple.

You just login to your blogger account, and click on the ‘add a page element’ link, where you want your adsense ad to be located. Next a window will be displayed ‘choose a new page element’ – you simply select the ‘Adsense’ option and then click on the ‘add to blog’ button. You then choose the size and formatting for your adsense ad, and click on ‘save changes’.

You should now see a adsense page element on your blog. There is a limit to the type and number of adsense ads you can add to a blog (make sure you read the Adsense terms of service, to ensure that you do not exceed this limit)

Adsense And WordPress

If you are using WordPress for your blog, then there are a number of different ways to add the adsense code. You can download a free adsense plugin, that allows you to add the adsense ad to your blog.Alternatively, just use this simple method:Log into your Google adsense account and generate the adsense ad (ensure you match the ad text and colours, so it will blend in with your blog). After you have done this your adsense account will generate the html code for the ad (which you will need to insert into your WordPress blog). To add this code to your WordPress blog:

You should now be able to see ads from Google appearing in the adsense block where you added the code (i.e. the header, footer or sidebar)

Wait For Acceptance

Although adsense ads will start appearing on your blog, these will initially be public service ads that do not pay any revenue when clicked. You have to wait for your Google adsense application to be approved before Google will start serving up contextual ads in the adsense blocks on your blog, which will generate revenue for you when clicked on. This is why it is important to have set up your blog and have some good content in place before applying for a Google adsense account.

Google Blogger Addons To Take Your Blog From Fit To Fab

May 4, 2010 - 10:08 am No Comments

Blogger is a fantastic stand-alone blogging platform. But when you consider the more than 20,000 addons available from Google, it becomes outstanding.
Google and other service providers offer some of the most useful and interesting add-ons you can imagine. And the vast majority are free and simple to use. Let’s take a look at how you can use them to enhance the value of your blog.
Where to find Google Blogger Addons
The mother lode of Blogger Addons can be found on the Google Gadgets website. To find this site, go to Google and search for ‘Google Gadgets For Your Webpage.’ You do not want to go to ‘Google Desktop Gadgets,’ because you won’t be able to use those gadgets on your blog. As of today, there are 22,119 gadgets available with more being added every day. Here are some of my favorites.
Fun & Games
Games and humor are two of the top reasons that visitors come back to the same blog and you can add tons of both with Google Gadgets.
Games include PacMan, Bowling, Tetris, Checkers, Hangman and virtually every other game you remember playing at the arcade. With respect to humor, you can add cartoons like Garfield, 9 to 5, SpongeBob, Bloom County and the Cartoon of the Day. Google offers dozens of gadgets to add lighthearted and comical information to your blog. Some of my favorites are Funny Cat Photos, the Bart Simpson Phrase of the Day (what does that tell you about your author?), Horoscopes and This Day In History. Your biggest problem will not be finding engaging gadgets for your blog, but knowing when to stop adding them.
News
On a more serious note, you can find gadgets that have to do with the news. These are some of the more common gadgets on both websites and blogs.
When people come to your Blogger blog they can see a gadgets that shows the local weather, breaking news, tropical storm warnings and even traffic reports in major cities. These are great gadgets to add if your blog is targeted to a local audience.
Tools
If you want to offer your visitors useful tools, you won’t be disappointed with Google Gadgets. Many of my blogs are populated with these gadgets and I find myself going to them regularly.
This is a great place to find calendars, world clocks, dictionaries, driving directions and maps. You can create and add a video message to your blog with one gadget in as little as a minute. The list of useful tools you can add to your Blogger blog is amazing.
Communication and Technology
For those of you who enjoy the more technical side of the Internet, these gadgets are for you. Add a gadget that gives instant access to Google Talk, Yahoo! Messenger, AIM Messenger, Hotmail and your Gmail account on your blog. You can add a Desktop Chat gadget and communicate with readers while they’re visiting your blog. I’ve seen this tool used on some of the better customer service sites and it’s great.
If you’re interested in space, Google has a gadget that shows images from the Hubble telescope, NOAA satellite images, current moon phases and daily astronomy pictures. These gadgets are quickly becoming as limitless as the universe.
Lifestyle
This is big. These gadgets are the equivalent of People Magazine. This is a great place to find the top five movies at the box office, Jon Stewart’s quote of the day (always funny), music, bible verses, National Geographic photos and even live TV.
Sports
I’m a sports fan. I especially enjoy baseball and NCAA football. Thank goodness there are gadgets to keep me posted on the sports world. You can add gadgets to your Blogger blog that will show the BCS standings, live sports scores, body building tips, boxing schedules and what your resting heart rate should be. There is even a gadget for you to keep track of your workout routine, assuming you have a workout routine and aren’t just an armchair quarterback like me.
As you can see there are more Google Blogger addons than you can imagine and they’re remarkably easy to place on your blog. Just select the gadget you want to use, copy the code generated by the gadget and add it to your Blogger blog under the HTML tab. If you would rather add the gadget to your sidebar, you can do that too and it will show up on every page of your blog. You’re going to love Google Gadgets and so will your readers.
